Barack Obama and his dramatic ascent to power has inspired a raft of books and articles. Now a German musical is set to pay an all-singing, all-dancing tribute to the world's most powerful man.
"Hope!" is to premiere in Frankfurt on Jan. 17 and charts the story of the US president's comet-like ascent to power in 2008. The musical feature roles including Barack and Michelle, a much-younger Hillary Clinton and John McCain, and of course Sarah Palin, whose solo includes scantily clad backup singers. The lyrics, mostly in English, are taken heavily from political speeches and statements.
Written by American composer Randall Hutchins, "I had the initial idea right at the start of Obama's electoral campaign, I found the atmosphere exciting and that was my inspiration. People hoped change would result in a better life. It was a beautiful, very social time."
My question though is, "Why Germany?" Just saying.
Carla Bruni-Skarkozy reigned in the fashion scene in political circles, then came Michelle Obama...Now, she's facing tight competition from her Spanish counterpart, Princess Letizia, the wife of Spain's Crown Prince Felipe.
Both ladies wore similar fitted dress, of course Carla wore her signature Dior, while Princess Letizia wore a dress by Spanish designer Felipe Varela. And the shoes! Louboutin for Carla and a giant purple platforms for the princess.
They both look great. I think competition is unnecessary.
Battle of the first ladies. France vs. U.S.A. Michelle and Carla are both wearing pussy-bow collars and hemlines that fall just below the knee. Maybe they think exactly alike, except Michelle's in a printed Thakoon coat, while Carla in her favorite colors, gray and purple. Carla's velvet lambskin coat is from Christian Dior's fall 2009 collection.
They're not really "in battle", I'm just talking in a fashion stand point. Michelle takes off her coat, reavealing a custom-pixelated floral-silk jacquard dress by Thakoon.
Now, the ladies in black? As the Obamas and Sarkozys have arrived at the opening of the NATO summit in Baden-Baden, Germany. Michelle, looking her most svelte and her most sexy to date in a dress by Azzedine Alaia and I love Carla's dress and neckline by Dior (again).
When Barry met Lizzie. It's not a title to a new movie, it's just because US President Barrack Obama came to visit the Queen!
As a custom, they exchanged gifts. The queen gave Barry a picture of herself while Barry gave Lizzie an iPod. Yes, an iPOD. I was expecting a little more.
So much about Barry and Lizzie, let's have our eyes on the first Lady Michelle Obama. I love her Isabel Toledo black-and-white outfit, paired with a cardigan by Azzedine Alaïa. According to WWD, "America’s First Lady wowed the Brits like no other since Jacqueline Kennedy during the Obamas visit to the capital."
I hate not having to update my blog. But I keep skipping updates one day after the other since I got here in Manila. Anyways, I was supposed to post this a few days before, I just hope it's never too late.
So they say, when America sneezes, the world catches a cold and the Philippines gets a pneumonia. So true! The Philippines had inauguration pneumonia! Our tiny archipelago was also one with the United States and the whole world on Inauguration day.
The day the United States has been waiting for it to be official...President elect Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. And while celebrities continue to pledge their allegiance, the fashion world's eyes are on First Lady Michelle Obama.
Michelle is secretive about her fashion choices, most designers aren't aware and wouldn't know until they see their goods worn by the First Lady on TV. So who made it into the First Lady's closet? Well, she's been known to have chosen some of the new designers, like this perfectly coordinated Narciso Rodriguez ensemble during pre-inauguration.
I think it really looks smart and flattering, at the same time it didn't upstage Pres. Obama. I like that she opted for separates and those black leather gloves..very modern indeed. On the Inaguration day, she wore yellow - lemongrass to be exact - by Cuban-born designer Isabel Toledo coat and dress. And 7-year-old Sasha and 10-year-old Malia wore Crewcuts by J.Crew and looked stunning in colored coats and scarves as they stood beside their father, President Barack Obama.
But who scored the inaugural gown? Newcomer, 26-year-old designer, Taiwan-born Jason Wu. She could have chosen any American great: Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors...but this white, one-shouldered flower applique dress made it to her top list and gave this young designer a career boost.
She looks like a breath of fresh air, and proved to be the belle on inaugural ball. Fashion will definitely keep an eye on Michelle, like a modern Jackie O., I too will be watching.
Inauguration night is getting more star-studded by the minute, but hear this out: Rihanna will rock it out on Obama's inauguration.
“We are thrilled to have Rihanna’s participation in the inauguration charity ball,” Feeding America's Vicky Escarra told Access. “As the prevalence of hunger in America increases at an unprecedented rate, we are most grateful to Rihanna and to RIAA for helping us bring greater visibility to this tragic reality and helping us feed millions more people in need.” Hmm...will she be bringing her boyfriend, Obama-fan Chris Brown along?
She's not even first lady yet, but Michelle Obama is in high demand. Vogue is eager to include Michelle Obama in an upcoming issue. According to Vogue spokesperson, "Starting with Eleanor Roosevelt, it’s been a long-standing tradition to photograph the new first lady. So needless to say, we are very interested in working with Mrs. Obama. Precisely how is still being discussed." If Michelle accepts, she will be the second first lady to ever grace the cover of its magazine.
The fashionable first lady, wore a red and black confection dress from Narciso Rodriguez's spring 2009 collection, one of the most critically acclaimed of New York Fashion Week. That dress hit the runway less than eight weeks ago and isn't on sales floors yet, which means special arrangements were made between Michelle and Narciso.
While the kids Malia and Sasha Obama has also been noticed by the fashion industry much like their mother. The lil beauties were dressed to the nines. Complementing their mama Michelle's stylish ensemble, Malia wore festive red and Sasha wore classic black.
