It took The Dark Knight seven months to gross $1 billion worldwide. It took Titanic nearly three months. Avatar has pocketed the same amount in a cool 17 days. Its billion-dollar (and counting) worldwide gross makes it now the highest-grossing film of all time. James Cameron "Titanic's" historic benchmark is not out-earned by it's new baby "Avatar".
One of the movies I'm looking forward to is the much anticipated sequel to the Sex and the City Movie. Be ready for a chock full of clichés, multiple "Carrie" word plays and glittering up the wazoo. The sneak peek opens up with Carrie strutting her stuff in a white Halston dress, Chanel clutch, and coveted Mykita & Bernhard Willhelm gold aviators. Of course, it only makes sense that Jay-Z's “Empire State of Mind” bumping in the background.
Apparently the girls' exotic desert getaway is the core of the movie. I can't wait to see busy mom Charlotte, blissfully in love Carrie, and still-on-the-prowl Samantha. Mark your calendars, it's going to be on May 28.
Last weekend was all about New Moon, malls were crowded and the traffic was unbelievable! But now that the record-breaking opening weekend is over, it's time to dish on the film. I've said this a couple of times that New Moon (the book) is my least favorite of the four books and Twilight of course was on top of my list. When I watched Twilight (the movie), it clearly was a big disappointment, it never even came close to the intensity of how beautiful the book was. So when we were all set for New Moon, I didn't have much of an expectation. But much to my surprise, this is one of those instances when I think the sequel is better than the original. In my opinion, the film's special effects and acting are far superior than what we see in Twilight, though Edward and Bella's whirlwind romance is better showcased in the first film.
I never expected New Moon to create such a madness that eventually translated to big bucks for the Twilight sequel. It set new records for midnight ticket sales and single-day ticket sales, it obviously ruled the weekend box office at number one. The movie pulled in $140.7 million, clocking it at the third biggest opening weekend ever, behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3. I was in line to get the ticket at 4pm, reached the counter at 6pm, and watched it at 11:30pm! Imagine that!
Was all the hysteria due to Taylor Lautner's ab exposure? I would like to think so.
Even heartthrob Robert Pattinson got a little insecure about it.
"It was incredibly annoying when I saw Taylor’s transformation. I realized just having a pre-pubescent girl’s body wasn’t going to work for me any more. In fact I saw him and thought ‘Jesus, I’m going to get fired."
OMG! I'm so looking forward to this. It's like the anticipation I have for The Time Traveller's Wife. I was a big The Notebook fan, and this latest adaptation from Notebook scribe Nicholas Sparks, Dear John could mean another box of tissue down the drain. The story focuses on a soldier home on leave (Channing Tatum) then falls for an "idealistic college student" (Amanda Seyfried) during her Spring vacation. Over the course of seven years the soldier's deployment becomes increasingly dangerous and means rarely seeing each other with the challenge of keeping their affair alive through overseas love letters that "eventually triggers fateful consequences."
Directed by Lasse Hallström (helmer behind The Cider House Rules) Dear John stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, and will be hitting screens on February 5.
Dakota Fanning as Jane and Cameron Bright as Alec.
Michael Sheen as Aro, Christopher Heyerdahl as Marcus and Jamie Bower as Caius.
Check out the official trailer of the upcoming New Moon.
New Moon is my least favorite of the Twilight series, but I'd still be watching the movie. Can I just say? Dakota Fanning looks fab as Jane! Two and a half months to go! Woohoo.
I’ve been looking forward to watching fashion’s highly anticipated documentary film by RJ Cutler, The September Issue. It features VOGUE’s Anna Wintour and her team. Check out the 2:29 trailer so you'd know what to expect from the film. Thakoon Panichgul has a particularly prominent role in the film and he said that “Anna is like Madonna”. And take note of Anna's one-liners! "This type is so large and pretentious. It looks like it’s for blind people." And: "She looks pregnant."
I'd say it's The Devil Wears Prada-ish, especially the part when Anna tells Oscar de la Renta to axe an outfit she dislikes from his collection. "I personally would not put this one in the show. "The other things you’ve shown us are more exciting." Also spotted are Patrick Demarchelier, Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquière, Jean Paul Gaultier, Stefano Pilati, André Leon Talley, Phillip Lim and Isabel Toledo, among others.
This is the real Devil Wears Prada -- and probably everything Anna wished that movie had been. She's really fashion's most powerful force, an ethereal being, a hurricane of fabulousness. Is it just me, or is it really that everyone around her seems terrified of her? Yet honored that they get to be in her presence? It really seems like how it is in the movie, except that it's how it really is.
Six years ago, Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami first collaborated on the Spring-Summer 2003 season. Now I'm excited to see their upcoming new collaboration, Takashi Murakami has created a film animation to follow his Superflat Monogram film from 2003. The new filmed is dubbed the Superflat First Love.
Although New Moon is the least of my favorite of the Twilight series, I'm still up to watch the upcoming movie this November. The best part I guess would have to be the part where Bella saves Edward.
I've received a message from Oscar Nava, he recalled the time when I was just at a local resto-bar in Iloilo where he ambushed interview me. I can't even remember what the question was but that it was something about culture. He's been with OnCreative for some time and he'd be bringing Panudlak to Iloilo and I'd be in the first part.
Panudlak (Welcoming the Dawn)
Synopsis: Have you planted rice?
This is the recurring question in the film PANUDLAK (Welcoming the Dawn), a documentary on the lives of Filipino volunteers Debbie Satentes and Manuel Reyes in Cambodia under VSO Bahaginan, an international development charity.
As other casts try to answer the said question, Satentes and Reyes come into a realization that the act of their volunteerism in two separate districts of a foreign country is likened to the process of planting rice.
Like those farmers, both volunteers also remark that the time and effort they have exerted, as well as their frustrations and successes, can be associated to Panudlak, the Hiligaynon term for beliefs and rituals in the Western Visayan Region of the Philippines done by farmers to ensure good harvest.
In the end, the two express that they indeed have contributed development in the communities they have served. No matter how big or small it the changes are, Satentes and Reyes passion towards volunteerism shows that they are the modern farmers this world needs.
It will be shown on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 5:30pm and on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Red Steakhouse and Gallery.
I wanted to see it. Unfortunately I'm here in Manila, I don't know how that would be possible.
I watched Watchmen last week since it was sucha hype.
After a few rounds in Glorietta and a cup of Dairy Queen ice cream. I braved myself into the theater. I clearly have no idea what I was about to see.
Everyone's been asking me: "How was it?"
My answer: "Well, it's unlike any other comic book I've ever seen. It's an epic."
As for the casting, I loved that Zack Snyder went for actors that were right for the roles instead of the “biggest” names in Hollywood. And as for the fight scenes, some were just gruesome for me to take. You'd see me cover my ears and close my eyes in those parts. On that note, I'd have to say that I'm the least credible person to give a review on this movie. But it was good enough to kill time.
